Thai Lion Air will soon be launching services to several new domestic and international destinations using an ATR 72-600.
The ATR aircraft is the first of its kind to join the airline’s fleet, and is the -600 series, the newest model of the aircraft. It sports a different passenger cabin compared to earlier reiterations. This includes the use of lighter, more ergonomic seats and restyled, larger overhead bins with 10 per cent more volume.
The aircraft will be stationed in Hat Yai, a city in southern Thailand near the Malaysian border. Domestically, it will be used to operate a five-times weekly service to the popular beach resort town of Hua Hin, and a three-times weekly service to Surat Thani. Both services begin March 21.
The new international destinations will include a four-times weekly service to Subang Kuala Lumpur from March 21, and a twice-weekly operation to Medan, Indonesia starting on April 6.
Thai Lion Air has already received regulatory approval from the country’s Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to operate the new routes, and have already begun selling tickets. The promotional one-way fares start at THB1,000 (US$30) for flights to Hau Hin, Subang and Meda, while tickets to Surat Thani start at THB700 (US$21).
