Best Western opens in Myanmar

27 Dec 2013 by Clement Huang

Best Western International has opened its first hotel in Myanmar.

The Best Western Green Hill Hotel, Yangon has 189 rooms and is located in Myanmar’s largest city, with views of the glittering spires of Shwedagon Pagoda.

It offers a range of modern amenities for international travellers such as complimentary in-room wifi, work desks, international power sockets and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels. A fitness centre, spa, sauna and jacuzzi will also be opened mid next year.

The hotel also features a restaurant serving Asian and international cuisine, in addition to three meeting rooms offering more than 200sqm of function space.

Best Western International’s Vice-President of International Operations for Asia and the Middle East Glenn de Souza said the opening of the hotel makes Best Western the first US-based hotel company to establish a presence in Myanmar since the country opened up to international investment. Many hotel groups are racing to establish themselves in this up-and-coming country, Accor being the most recent, having announced that it is to open three major properties there (see here).

Best Western International plans to launch its first hotel in Myanmar's capital, Naypyidaw, next year.
