Gansevoort founder to open London property

17 Dec 2013 by GrahamSmith

Gansevoort Hotels founder Michael Achenbaum will start work on a new luxury lifestyle property in London's Shoreditch district next year.

Achenbaum has announced plans to develop a £60 million, full-service "urban resort" with 120 rooms, including seven suites. It has yet to be decided whether the hotel will be branded as a Gansevoort property or not.

The hotel will feature a restaurant, a split-level bar, a 24-hour fitness centre, a heated rooftop swimming pool and a lounge.

Over 550 sqm will be dedicated to meeting rooms and events areas, while the local street art scene will influence the hotel's design, Achenbaum said.

Development is due to begin in the spring and the opening is scheduled for 2015.

Fellow US group Ace Hotels opened its first London property in Shoreditch in October. For a review of that hotel, click here.
