Ryanair to introduce eight new routes at Shannon

24 Oct 2013 by GrahamSmith

Ryanair is launching eight new routes from Shannon airport.

The airline has entered into talks with the major airports in Ireland about increasing flights following the Irish government's decision to scrap its aviation tax last week.

Ryanair will add flights from Shannon to Berlin, Faro, Fuerteventura, Krakow, Munich, Nice, Paris and Warsaw from April 2014. The airline will also add an extra weekly flight to Stansted which will take the total to 15 per week.

The airline said it was still in discussions with four other Irish airports – Dublin, Cork, Kerry and Knock – about the possible increase of flights.

Michael Cawley, Ryanair's deputy chief executive, said: "This growth is in direct response to the government's welcome decision to scrap the €3 air travel tax from April 2014.

"The scrapping of the air travel tax will help restore Ireland's competitiveness and attractiveness to overseas visitors from the UK and continental Europe in particular.

"Having met with all five of the main Irish airports, we hope to announce further new route and traffic growth plans over the coming weeks."
