Hotel group GLH has launched a smartphone express check-in service at all of its 36 properties across the UK.
The technology, which "eliminates" waits at the check-in desk, uses Apple Passbook and Google Now technology for guests arriving with an iPhone or an Android device respectively.
It works by sending an automatic pop-up to the user’s smartphone screen when they come into the vicinity of their chosen GLH or Thistle hotel.
This allows staff to quickly locate guests' booking information before they have arrived at the check-in desk.
Mithu Sengupta, the brand's ecommerce and distribution director, said: "The benefits of the new service are already becoming apparent in our customer feedback, not least because it is saving guests' time and provides a more efficient service.
"The system is able to save booking information and special requests so that the hotel staff can prepare effectively for arrival allowing them to provide a warm and welcoming personal service with greater attention to detail."
GLH is working to further develop the technology to allow guests with an Apple device to use a QR confirmation code on Passbook to pick up their room key on arrival.
Guoman was rebranded as GLH in June (see online news, June 12). Of the 36 GLH hotels in the UK, five previously came under the Guoman brand and the remainder are Thistle properties.
