El Al to add Economy Class Plus to B767s

19 Feb 2013 by ScottCarey7

Following a successful launch onboard its B747s, El Al is extending its Economy Class Plus product onto its B767-300 fleet.

The cabins will be fitted with premium economy seats and refurbished with new LED lighting, toilets and flatscreen overhead monitors.

The first refurbished aircraft featuring Economy Class Plus began operating this week, with the full fleet refurbishment scheduled for completion by June 2013.

Economy Class Plus is located in front of the economy section and offers 36 inches of legroom, four inches more than in economy. There is also a 33 per cent greater recline, pillows and blankets from business class and designated check-in counters. Meals are the same as in economy class.

Every business class and Economy Class Plus passenger travelling on the B767 can use an iPad pre-loaded with films, games, TV and music content.

Economy Class Plus upgrades cost US$150 per long-haul sector and US$80 per short-haul flight.

Members of El Al’s Matmid Club frequent flyer programme in the Top Platinum, Platinum and Gold tiers, as well as passengers who purchase upgradeable tickets in economy are entitled to seating in Economy Class Plus at no extra cost. Top Platinum members may also get an upgrade for an accompanying traveller at no extra cost.

The carrier introduced the new product in June 2012 onboard its B747-400 aircraft. Shmuel Kuzi, El Al vice president maintenance and engineering also confirmed that the carrier is planning on further rolling the product out on to its B777 fleet.
