The Gatwick Express website says that the cancellations will "allow us to run longer trains", and published the following apology:

"We would like to apologise to you if your journeys over the last few days have been disrupted.

"Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to provide you with the best possible service in these difficult conditions, and we thank you for your patience."

Gatwick Express services were also disrupted last week, following a fire onboard one of its trains at London Victoria, which led to the station being evacuated.
