Eurostar to trial new services to Lyon and Provence

4 Dec 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Eurostar is to trial new services to Lyon and Aix-en-Provence during May and June next year.

The high-speed rail operator will offer the new destinations alongside its existing summer service to Avignon, with the trains running direct from London to Lyon, then onto Avignon and finally Aix-en-Provence.

On the return journey the service will stop at Lille Europe, where customers will be required to disembark to complete security and passport checks, before boarding a second service back to the UK.

The services to Lyon and Provence will run between May 4 and June 29, with the Avignon route continuing until September 13.

Tickets for the new services will go on sale on December 11, and the full timetables are detailed below. Return fares to Lyon start from £99, and to Aix-en-Provence and Avignon from £109.

Commenting on the new routes Nick Mercer, commercial director for Eurostar said:

“By trialling this new service for future years, and by opening sales to our existing annual summer Avignon services earlier than usual, we are giving customers even more flexibility and choice when planning their trips to the south of France next year.”

BA offer flights to Lyon from Heathrow, while Easyjet serves the French city from both Gatwick and Stansted.

Aix-en-Provence is served by Marseille airport, located around 30km from the city, with BA and Easyjet both offering flights from Gatwick, and Ryanair flying from Stansted.
