Bloc Hotels to extend Birmingham property

9 Nov 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Bloc Hotels is to extend its 73-room Birmingham property, adding 24 long-stay apartments.

The extension is scheduled to open at the end of summer 2013, and will feature apartments with kitchenettes and lounge areas.

Bloc Birmingham opened last year in the city’s Jewellery quarter, offering pod-style rooms with king-sized beds, free internet access, wet rooms with drench showers, ambient lighting and HD LED TVs.

The new extension will cater for guests looking for long-stay options in the city.

Bloc Hotels is also continuing the development of its Gatwick property, which is due to open in September 2013.

The group is working on innovative technology for the new hotel, including the use of guests’ smartphones to control door locks, the TV, air-conditioning and blinds.

According to director Rob Morgan the 244-room hotel – which will be located next to the South Terminal’s departures hall – will also feature a “business-focussed floor” with “over-spec’d soundproofing".

Business Traveller will publish more information on the Gatwick property in the New Year, including room images and further details on the hotel’s technology offering.
