Accor opens Mei Jue Grand Mercure in Dongguan

6 Nov 2012

Accor has opened one of its upscale Mei Jue Grand Mercure brand hotels in the southern Chinese industrial centre of Dongguan city.

The Mei Jue hotels are a variation of Accor’s Grand Mercure brand that has been tailored to Chinese travellers (for more about the brand see here). They incorporate elements of Chinese culture into their service, with a traditional Chinese welcome, 24-hour congee service, and a selection of fine Chinese teas available.

The group has 13 of the Mei Jue Grand Mercure hotels currently operating in China.

This property is located in Shijie Town, about 10km from the centre of Dongguan city. According to the Dongguan Government website, the city is China's third-largest export base and is home to 14,000 foreign-funded enterprises.

Dominant manufacturing includes electronics and communication devices, machinery, garments and fiber products, textile, paper and paper products, and food and beverage. The multinational companies Nokia, Philips, and Nestlé all have factories in the city. The Donguan government last year announced a plan to establish a large photovoltaic manufacturing industry in the city by 2015.

The hotel is a short distance from Dongguan's Shi Long Railway Station – a stop on the line between Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Both these cities can also be reached by car within an hour.

Executive king room

The Grand Mercure Dongguan has 263 rooms including 16 suites, with the superior and executive rooms measuring 40 sqm and the suites at 80 sqm. The rooms all have complimentary wifi and broadband internet, iPod docking stations, safes and mini bars and offer views of the urban area around the hotel.

Deluxe suite

There is an outdoor unheated swimming pool and a fitness centre. A traditional Chinese Tai-chi session intended to restore mental and physical well-being is offered each morning for hotel guests.

There are three restaurants: Senses is an all-day option offering international food, Fuji serves Japanese food and Regal Garden offers Chinese food, specialising in seafood and with 15 private rooms for meetings or functions.

The hotel has a pillarless ballroom, able to seat 800 people, and seven meeting rooms of varying sizes.
