Kenya Airways is set to launch its budget Jambo Jet brand by the year-end, according to The Daily Nation.
The report says that the carrier has received a route licence for the low-cost spin off, with plans to operate six domestic and 16 regional African routes, using B737 aircraft.
Among the regional destinations set to be served by Jambo Jat include Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Entebbe, Addis Ababa, Zanzibar and Kigali.
The carrier will provide more competition within the growing African aviation market, with the Stelios-founded budget airline Fastjet also set to later this year, operating from bases in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Angola (see online news July 4).
