Belgian strike to disrupt Eurostar services

26 Jan 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Eurostar has been forced to cancel services to and from Belgium on Monday January 30, due to a general strike taking place across the country.

The operator says it will be unable to operate services for 24 hours between 2200 CET on Sunday January 29 and Monday January 30.

All services will terminate and commence at Lille Europe station. There will be a limited replacement coach service between Lille and Brussels, but Eurostar says “demand is likely to be extremely high for these coaches and we expect both stations to become busy as a result”.

The operator is recommending that passengers booked on services to or from Belgium on January 30 (or on the 1904 departure from London on January 29), exchange their tickets free of charge onto alternative services.

Passengers travelling to and from Lille Europe on January 30 are advised to check eurostar.com, where a revised timetable will be published.

The disruption follows similar general strike action in Belgium which took place in December.
