Aftershocks continue in Christchurch

24 Dec 2011 by ReggieHo

Powerful aftershocks are continuing in Christchurch, after several earthquakes ranging from 5 to 6 in magnitude rocked the city in the early afternoon yesterday (Friday). The most recent one struck at 6.37am Saturday, local time. Although no deaths have been reported following the shocks, the quakes injured dozens and rattled many in a city that 10 months ago suffered from a devastating earthquake that killed more than 180 people. Christchurch International Airport only experienced brief disruption and flights bound for it are operating as usual for now, but passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the most updated information. Singapore Airlines operates direct flights between Changi and Christchurch, while Emirates flies to the New Zealand city from Dubai with a stopover in Bangkok.
