Marriott International is to open a 173-room hotel in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince in 2014, as the country continues to recover from last year’s devastating earthquake
The Port-au-Prince Marriott Hotel will be located in the Haute Turgeau area of the city, and will feature five suites, a casual restaurant, lobby bar and lounge, 428sqm of meeting space, a fitness centre and swimming pool.
The US$45 million development will be owned by Unigestion Holding SA, a subsidiary of Digicel Group Ltd, and managed under the Marriott Hotels and resorts brand, creating 175 new jobs in the city.
Marriott said it is has also worked closely with charitable organisation the Clinton Foundation to develop the project, and said the new hotel would provide “needed lodging and meeting space for business travellers seeking to invest in the country, non-government organizations (NGOs), humanitarian organisations, reconstruction teams, financial institutions and visitors to the capital”.
