United's Dreamliner enters assembly stage

18 Aug 2011

United Continental Holdings announced that its first Boeing B787 Dreamliner aircraft has entered the assembly phase at the Boeing facility.

The aircraft is scheduled for delivery in early 2012, making United the first American carrier to operate the Dreamliner. It will be configured with 38 flat-bed seats in BusinessFirst class, 63 Economy Plus seats and 120 economy seats.

The aircraft will also feature the “Boeing Sky” interior, bigger windows, larger overhead bins, increased cabin humidity, reduced cabin pressure and enhanced ventilation systems. For a preview of its interiors, click here.

Routes which will feature the 787 will be announced later this year. At present, United Continental has a total of 50 Dreamliner aircraft on order – 25 for United Airlines and 25 for Continental Airlines.

Flight tests for launch customer All Nippon Airways (see story here) were recently completed, and delivery is expected in September (see story here) after several delays.
