Travellers can now make free phone calls through Viber, a new iPhone application, enabling them to call other iPhone users without any additional charges.
The app, which is available for free on iTunes, have to be installed on the iPhone to make and receive a call for free. Since it is a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service – like Skype – it can work using either 3G data plans or wifi. Users do not need to import or add new contacts to their database. The Viber application will automatically detect other users on the contacts lists that have installed the software.
Though the app is currently only available for the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android versions will soon be developed. The app will also extend services to include free text messages.
