Air Asia X announces New Zealand link

1 Dec 2010 by BusinessTraveller

The Malaysia-based low-cost carrier will launch direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand next year.

Four-times weekly flights will commence on April 1, 2011, using new Airbus A330 aircraft configured with the carrier's lie-flat beds in business.

There are currently no direct services between Kuala Lumpur and Christchurch, although rival carrier Malaysia Airlines does serve New Zealand's largest city of Auckland on the North Island. Other international airlines serving Christchurch include Emirates, Qantas and Singapore Airlines. Air New Zealand flies from the South Island's largest city to several Australian destinations, plus seasonal services to Tokyo and Osaka.

Flight times vary between morning and evening departures depending on the day of service (see below for the full schedule), and to celebrate the new route Air Asia is offering promotional fares  from HK$528 one way for travel between April 1 and November 10, 2011. The booking period for these introductory fares runs starts on December 3 (0700 Hong Kong time, 1200 New Zealand time).
