Brunei's Empire Hotel to refresh room inventory

25 Nov 2010

The Empire Hotel & Country Club, Brunei Darussalam’s high-profile leisure property, will be adding a set of new guestrooms, the details of which are currently being finalised. The current inventory consists 518 rooms.

According to Evangeline Imperial, The Empire's director of sales and marketing, about B$8 million (US$6.1 million) will be spent on introducing their latest accommodation concept which will feature 196 units with “abundant natural sunlight, the latest technology showcasing wifi internet access, 55-inch LED TVs allowing guests to check information about their bills and the resort’s facilities, enjoy video-on-demand and order room service”. Other conveniences to be placed will include universal plug outlets, iPod docking station and internet radio.

The new products will be incorporated in the main Atrium Building, which is already made up of the deluxe, superior and Ocean rooms and suite. Sixteen villas are found in the gardens.

Construction is expected to begin by December 15, and will be done in phases, 20 rooms at a time. The project should be completed by late 2011, said Imperial.

Opened in October 2000 with much fanfare due to its sprawling size and palatial interiors – an obvious nod to the reigning Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah – it remains the only place in the country to stage international, if not, large local events. Recently, the Grand Hall, accommodating up to 3,000 people, was added to The Empire's portfolio of corporate-oriented facilities, which also includes theatres.
