Guangzhou will be increasing connectivity during the 16th Asian Games by expanding free wifi coverage from November 1 until December 31, 2010.
Major telecommnications providers China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom will be providing 5,000 wifi "hotspots" throughout several venues, including the Asian Games competition areas, government offices, hotels, shopping malls, hospitals, restaurants, the Baiyun International Airport and International Exhibition Centre.
Visitors can open their browsers in a hotspot, and they will be automatically redirected to a website – available in English, Japanese, Korean and Arabic – where they will be asked to create their own username and password to access the internet for free. Once registered, they can use the internet without any time restriction.
