Thistle’s Manchester hotel has been renamed The Portland by Thistle, following a £3 million refurbishment project encompassing rooms, the front hall and the restaurant and bar.
The refurbishments are due to be completed next month, and see 204 rooms revamped, including new air conditioning units. Two new lifts have also been installed, and the hotel’s front hall has been refurbished, with the Portland St Restaurant and Bar “refreshed”.
The Portland moniker is a nod to the original name of the hotel which first opened in 1973. The property’s meeting spaces have also been refurbished and are now known as the Portland Riley Suites, in honour of local artist Harold Riley, although each indivudal suite is named after a local football legend - Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Matt Busby, Dennis Law and Mercer.
The Portland by Thistle is located on Portland St opposite Piccadilly Gardens and within walking distance of Manchester Piccadilly station.
