Shanghai landmark re-emerges as the Fairmont Peace Hotel

After welcoming visitors for private viewings in March (see news) Fairmont Peace Hotel opens officially today, unveiling the results of a major restoration effort. (See images below. HBA was the design consultant.) Fairmont Peace Hotel Shanghai Dubbed “Number One Mansion in the Far East” due to a prime location along the Bund and distinctive design features such as a copper sheathed roof, white Italian marble flors and Lalique glass artwork, the 81-year-old landmark was formerly possessed by tycoon Sir Victor Sassoon. It is now owned by Jin Jiang Hotels International and managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. Fairmont Peace Hotel Shanghai It features 270 guestrooms and suites, upgraded with mod cons such as a 37-inch plasma stereo TV, bath-side LCD screen, blue-ray DVD player and wireless and broadband internet with plug-and-play connectivity. Standard entry room size is 45sqm. Offering ample leisure options are six restaurants and lounges, including the popular Jazz Bar, a Shanghai institution since the 1930s and the sky-lit swimming pool and Willow Stream Spa in the new extension.
