China Eastern launches flights between Taiwan and Hebei province

22 Jun 2010

China Eastern Airlines is to launch the first direct flight between Hebei province and Taiwan on July 22, 2010.

The once-a-week Shijiazhuang-Taipei flight will leave Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport at 2.10pm and arrive at Taipei’s Taoyuan Airport at 5.20pm. The return flight will leave at 6.10pm and return to Shijiazhuang at 9.30pm.

Shijiazhuang is the capital of Hebei province and a centre for the textile and pharmaceutical industries as well as diary and agricultural products. There are several special commercial zones in the province with a substantial number of Taiwanese-owned companies.

Currently, people traveling between Hebei and Taiwan need to transfer in either Beijing, Xiamen or Hongkong.

Shijiazhuang is one of two new destinations in the mainland that are approved to operate cross-Straits passenger flights. The other one is Hongqiao in Shanghai.

China Eastern Airlines is based in Shanghai and is in the process of joining the Skyteam alliance.
