Guangzhou-based China Southern Airlines will open a new twice-weekly route between Beijing and Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan, from August 19, 2010.
The new route is the first operated by a Chinese carrier between the two countries and reflects growing economic contacts between China and the former Soviet republics of Central Asia.
China Southern also operates routes to cities in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan using its secondary hub in Urumqi, in China’s northwestern Xinjiang province.
The flights will depart from Beijing on Thursdays and Sundays at 4.20pm and arrive in Tashkent at 7.40pm local time. Return flights will leave Tashkent at 8.50pm and arrive at Beijing at 5.50am local time the following day.
