Eurostar will not be running any passenger services on Monday December 21, following the disruption caused by the failure of several trains on Friday.
Thousands of passengers were left stuck in the Channel Tunnel on Friday night, as the adverse weather conditions caused a total of five Eurostar trains to break down. The operator ran "test-trains" without passengers today (Sunday December 20), and has been forced to extend the suspension of services.
A statement on the homepage of eurostar.com, updated at 8pm on Sunday December 20, says:
"Eurostar will not be operating services on Monday December 21, 2009. We sincerely regret having to take this decision and we understand how frustrated and disappointed travellers will be, particularly those who have been waiting to travel for the last two days. We strongly advise passengers whose travel is non-essential to change their booking to a later date or claim a refund on their tickets. We have also announced our compensation policy for inconvenienced travellers. We will provide a further update regarding Tuesday’s services by 6pm on Monday. "
