Google offers free Wi-Fi in 47 US airports

22 Nov 2009

Travellers commuting around the US until January 15, 2010 will enjoy complimentary wireless internet in 47 airports across the country. Internet search provider Google is footing the bill for the wireless connectivity.

The list of airports includes the international air terminals in Miami and Orlando, Seattle, Baltimore, Buffalo, Louiseville, San Jose, San Diego and Las Vegas among others.

"This is our holiday gift to our users, and when you connect, we also hope you will take the opportunity to try some of the latest Google products," a company statement said.

The Federal Aviation Administration estimates 100 million people will travel back and forth across the country during the holidays. Passengers stuck in airport terminals due to weather delays will likely appreciate the free Wi-Fi.

Google's move follows a similar free Wi-Fi offer from Yahoo. Yahoo recently announced that it would provide free Wi-Fi for an entire year in New York's Times Square.
