Work has now started on the JW Marriott Absheron in Baku, Azerbaijan, a new-build property overlooking the capital city’s military parade square.
The new 20-floor construction by ReardonSmith Architects, scheduled to be ready in 2011, will overlook Baku’s Freedom Square and the city’s seafront boulevard.
As well as 228 hotel guestrooms and suites spread across four floors, the property will house 16 levels of private residences, serviced apartments, and retail and office space.
The hotel will feature a 20m high stepped podium, with water features, connecting Freedom Square to the hotel’s first floor. Car parking space will be located underground to free up space for further landscaping.
As with other JW Marriott properties, Absheron will have a “Great Room” connecting the ground floor reception area to the rear of the hotel with upper level bars and restaurants. The hotel will also have a 1200sqm ballroom that can be divided up into smaller event spaces.
The entire building will be “clad in natural stone” for a simple appearance, while horizontal and vertical design elements will give the building “rhythm”.
ReardonSmith is also working on the Four Seasons Baku, making the JW Marriott Absheron its second major hotel project in Azerbaijan’s capital.
