Chinese business travellers expect consistent quality service from travel and hospitality providers. The roll call of winners of the 2009 Business Traveller China Awards, handed out during dinner ceremonies tonight at The Westin Beijing Chaoyang, was proof positive.
Established names and brands dominated the event, including Singapore Changi Airport for Best Airport in the World; Singapore Airlines for Best Airline in the World and Best Asian Airline serving China; Air China for Best Chinese Airline serving China; Grand Hyatt for Best Hotel Brand in the World; Shangri-La for Best Hotel Brand in China; Ascott as Best Serviced Residence in China; and Mission Hills Resort & Spa as Best Golf Resort in China. Hongkong won as Favourite City in the World.
Joining the charmed circle of star performers were first-time winners, Beijing Capital International Airport for Best Airport in China; The Westin Beijing Chaoyang for Best New Business Hotel in China; and Kempinski Hotel Dalian for Best Business Hotel in Dalian, InterContinental Hong Kong for Best Business Hotel in Hongkong, Sheraton Shenzhen Futian for Best Business Hotel in Shenzhen and The Venetian for Best Business Hotel in Macau SAR.
Launched in 2005, the awards are classified in 32 categories, eight for airlines, 20 for hotel and accommodation, out of which, 15 topped the competition in major cities in China.
The Chi Heng Foundation, a champion for better education for thousands of AIDS-impacted Chinese children, was the seven-year-old publication’s beneficiary for a Silent Auction of travel products and services. This is the fourth year that Panacea Publishing Asia, Business Traveller’s motherhouse, is working with the group to provide a better future for the youngsters, many of whom are orphans and shunned by their communities. The proceeds of the Silent Auction recently funded four reading rooms in the provinces of Anhui and Henan.
Renowned cellist Trey Lee, honorary patron for Chi Heng, was this year’s guest of honour. James Chau, well known news presenter with CCTV, was master of ceremonies.
