A ban has been enforced on foreigners entering Tibet in the lead up to celebrations in Beijing marking the 60th birthday of communist China on October 1.
According to regional newspapers, an unnamed Lhasa Tourism Bureau staff member said the ban on foreign visas is effective on Thursday September 24 through October 8.
Previously, foreign tourists were banned from visiting Tibet after anti-Chinese riots erupted in Lhasa in March 2008 and also, in March of this year, during the 50th anniversary of a failed 1959 uprising against China.
