Santiago gets first W hotel in South America
Starwood’s W hotel brand has launched in South America with the opening of the W Santiago and the Residences at W Santiago.
The five-star lifestyle hotel is in the centre of the new financial district. On a recent visit to the hotel, Patricio Ihnen Klammer, director of public relations for Starwood Hotels and Resorts, told Business Traveller: “W wants location, location, location and this is the new location for finance in Santiago – known as ‘Sanhatten’.”
Klammer said that Santiago was ready for a W hotel: “There's been a lot of expectation and people are ready for it. It’s a new and exciting place to go.”
The W is part of a larger mixed-use complex called Isidora 3,000. As well as the hotel, hotel there are 46 W residences, offices, and high-end retail outlets, such as Mercedes-Benz.
The 196-room new-build hotel offers striking interior design by New York designer Tony Chi, partnered with native Chilean designer Sergio Echeverria and his studio Echeverria Edwards and CIA. The lobby and check-in area are on the fourth floor and feature copper fireplaces, green leather armchairs and leather walls with drums sewn into them.
W Santiago offers an assortment of modern lounges, bars and
restaurants. Red2 One is a rooftop bar with views of the Andes, and a heated
outdoor pool will be open here shortly. There are two contemporary French
offerings – NoSo and Terraza (also with an outdoor area, pictured right) – and a Tea Library
with computers and comfortable chairs. Whiskey Blue bar and Osaka, a restaurant featuring Peruvian-Asian cuisine, were
having the finishing touches put on them when Business Traveller visited in early September.
The accommodation offering includes 16 Cool Corner rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, three WOW suites, and the signature Extreme WOW suite (Presidential suite), with views of Santiago and the Andes.
All rooms feature black and white photographs of Chile, modern furniture and high ceilings. Many have terraces too. All guestrooms feature W beds with goose down duvets, flatscreen LCD TVs, broadband wifi, docking stations for MP3 players, and fully stocked minibars.
There’s a 24-hour business centre and free wifi access in public areas. There is 1,800 sqm of events
space, with ten fully equipped meeting rooms.
The Great room seats up to 1,400 guests for large events.
