IHG opens second Vietnam hotel

10 Sep 2009 by Sara Turner

IHG has opened the Intercontinental Asiana Saigon hotel in Ho Chi Minh. It is the second hotel by the brand to open in Vietnam, after the Interncontinental Hanoi.

The 305-room InterContinental Asiana Saigon has extensive meeting facilities, including eight meeting rooms and the Grand Ballroom, which has indoor and outdoor pre-function spaces and can host up to 600 people for a banquet. There is also a business centre open between 6am and 10.30pm.

The hotel also has five restaurants and bars, including Market 39, which offers French, Vietnamese and South East Asian cuisines, plus Italian restaurant Basilico. Yu Chu, opening in November, will serve Cantonese and Peking cuisine cooked in a live show kitchen.

Leisure facilities include a spa, a fully-equipped health club offering cardio and strength equipment as well as exercise and yoga classes, and an outdoor swimming pool. Bedrooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, deep-soaking bathtubs and separate walk-in rain showers.

Phil Riley, general manager pf the Intercontinental Saigon said: “Vietnam has a huge potential as a destination for both business and leisure tourists from around the world and IHG is confident in the success of InterContinental Asiana Saigon.”

Vietnam has seen a number of international hotel developments in recent weeks, including the announcement of a new Marriott property to open in 2012 (see online news July 23) and the rebranding of the Sofitel in Hanoi as Accor’s first Legend hotel (see online news July 27).
