Ulu Ulu Resort expands business facilities

17 Aug 2009

Brunei's Ulu Ulu National Park Resort is undergoing a major refurbishment, part of which will enhance its business amenities for guests who need to stay connected to their offices. The project should be completed in 2010.

Two hours away from the capital Bandar Seri Begawan, the 23-room property opened over two years ago in the 50,000ha Ulu Temburong National Park Rainforest where activities such as jungle trekking, canopy walk and kayaking are a normal part of the stay's itinerary.

While the resort is primarily a nature getaway destination for leisure travellers, a growing number of corporate groups have been going to Ulu Ulu for their offsite and teambuilding programmes. "We are building facilities that cater to the comfort and convenience of our guests without compromising their nature experience," said resort managing director Anthony Chieng.

Visitors will soon find in-room internet in their villas and suites, but online connectivity in the public areas will only be available in the Club Lounge.
In addition, an open-air multi-purpose hall is now being built for meetings and other business events. Ulu Ulu resort currently has one boardroom on the second floor of the Club Lounge.

Chieng shared his development vision with Business Traveller saying: "When we first started, it was our goal to aim higher. We did not want to compete with other nature lodges around the area, but bring in complementary services."

With Ulu Ulu positioned for high-end incentives, facilities such as a spa, using all-natural ingredients in its treatments, and a helipad are being added. While the helipad will initially only be used by the Brunei royal family and high-ranking government officials, Chieng hopes it will eventually be offered for commercial use.

Until the end of the year, the resort is offering special packages, starting from B$290 (US$203) for an overnight stay in a Standard Room. Packages include return transfers, three full meals with free flow of soft drinks, free use of pool table and cinema, and a complimentary tour as specified in the itinerary.
