The Maltese national carrier is the latest airline to allow passengers to check in and select their seat on board Air Malta flights through their mobile phones. The service is available for all Air Malta customers flying out of Malta International airport, with or without baggage.
Passengers can check-in by entering their name and flight number at mobile.airmalta.com on their internet-enabled phones, 23 hours before the flight and up to two hours before the scheduled departure time.
A bar-coded boarding pass will then be delivered to their mobile phone. Once at the airport, passengers display this image on their mobile phones before boarding. People travelling with baggage should go to the drop-off counter with their luggage on arrival at the airport.
Joe Cappello, Air Malta’s chief executive, said: “With the introduction of these new facilities and investment in new technologies we are re-affirming our commitment to our passengers by offering them an even easier service at the airport… We are not only simplifying the check-in process, but also, through reducing paper, we are helping our environment.”
Cappello added that while the service is only available to passengers departing from Malta, mobile check-in is set to be expanded to other Air Malta destinations in the future.
