THAI promotion takes on budget carriers

14 Jul 2009

THAI Airways International has launched an aggressive pricing campaign “Fly THAI Get More”, which is designed to counter the threat posed by low-cost carriers such as AirAsia.

The promotional fares are around 20 percent less than THAI's seasonal norms.

THAI spokesmen stressed the additional benefits available as a full-service carrier, such as lounge access, mileage accrual, baggage allowance as well as greater meal and seating choices. The airline also stressed its stronger international networks and frequency.

All-inclusive round-trip fares start at 2,810 baht (US$82) for domestic flights and 4,300 baht (US$125) for regional flights in economy class.

Up to a third of seats on all THAI flights will be sold at special rates.

Promotional tickets must be purchased by July 31, with travel made before September 30.

Special prices being offered include services to Singapore at 5,645 baht (US$165), Shanghai and Beijing at 12,930 baht (US$378),  Tokyo at 16,025 baht, (US$469) and Korea at 16,170 baht (US$473).
