Hongkong's new generation of hotels are set to open in coming months. Here's a sneak preview.

Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees

When’s it open? October 2009

Where is it? Near the former Kai Tak Airport area, close to shopping and entertainment areas including MTR Hunghom Station, Kowloon Bay shopping, Kowloon City dining and the bustling district of Tsimshatsui

Fast facts: 702 rooms and suites, with 104 of the rooms and suites fully equipped with kitchenette units for long-stay guests

Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees is the latest property from Harbour Plaza Hotels & Resorts and has a unique twist in its lobby: it has created an optical illusion as though you’re inside Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Should appeal to those with jet lag.

The Upper House

When’s it open? October 2009

Where is it? Pacific Place in Admiralty, in the same tower as, and above, the JW Marriott

Fast facts: 117 rooms, including 21 suites and two penthouses, begin at 730sq ft – the largest in Hongkong

The Upper House will mark the return of chef Gray Kunz to HongKong with his Café Gray Deluxe, a 21st century ‘grand café’ located on the 49th floor overlooking Victoria Harbour. The hotel will also have a lawn on the 6th floor and a sky lounge on the 49th floor. Pictured is the free-standing limestone bathtub, with views. The name, ‘The Upper House’, is derived from the design philosophy of an upward journey from Queensway towards Pacific Place, elevating into a serene house above the bustling city.

Crowne Plaza Hongkong Causeway Bay

When’s it open? October 2009

Where is it? Causeway Bay

Fast facts: The new Crowne Plaza will feature 263 rooms and suites which are the largest in Causeway Bay

Other highlights include Wi-Fi broadband internet connection, iPod dock accompanied with 5.1 Surround Sound DVD System, a 42-inch HD LCD television, work facilities like business centre and seven function rooms, three dining options and a gym.

Ritz-Carlton Hongkong, Kowloon

When’s it open? September 2010

Where is it? Occupying the top 16 floors of the 118-storey International Commerce Centre in West Kowloon

Fast facts: Soaring 1,574 ft into the Victoria Harbour skyline, the new Ritz-Carlton Hongkong, Kowloon claims to be "the tallest hotel in the world". It features 300 rooms and suites, 360° panoramic views of Victoria Harbour, three fine dining restaurants, extensive meeting space, indoor/outdoor rooftop swimming pool and spa and fitness centre.

Hyatt Regency Hongkong, Tsim Sha Tsui

When’s it open? Late third quarter of 2009
