Starwood to add properties in Asia Pacific

23 Jun 2009

Starwood Hotels and Resorts is expanding its portfolio in Asia-Pacific, with launches under its 10 brands lined up until 2014.

By the end of this year, Sheraton-branded properties will open in Incheon, South Korea (August) and Nha Trang (November), a coastal city and capital of Khánh Hòa province on the south-central coast of Vietnam.

Also in India, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune will be home to three Westin properties, all opening this September. And in January 2010, Chennai will see the opening of aloft, a mid-market and “sister” brand to W hotels.

Yilan County, a county in northeastern Taiwan will feature the Sheraton Yilan Resort also in January, while a Westin will open in Phuket in March.

Aggressively expanding in China, Starwood will be launching 11 hotels in the next half of 2009. These new hotels – which will be branded Four Points by Sheraton, Le Méridien, Sheraton and Westin – will feature in these cities: Lianyungang, Taicang and Jiangyin (Jiangsu province); Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shunde and Zhongshan (Guangdong province); Hohhot (in north-central China); Qiandao (eastern Shandong province); Xiamen and Tianjin.

"We are today the largest luxury/upper upscale hotel company in Asia Pacific, with over 140 existing hotels and over 110 under construction. Out of these hotels under development, more than half of them are in China. In fact, last year we were thrilled to announce the signing of our 100th hotel in China," says Yeo Hwee Peng, director, corporate communications, Starwood Asia Pacific Hotels and Resorts.

"In 2009, we are looking at opening somewhere between 80 to 100 hotels worldwide. And we also look forward to celebrating an important milestone in 2009, when we will open our 1000th hotel."
