Ritz-Carlton to open Cairo property

14 May 2009 by Sara Turner

Ritz-Carlton has announced plans for a second hotel in Egypt’s capital. Housed within a new development featuring a 27-hole golf course, the Ritz-Carlton Cairo, Palm Hills is due to open in 2012.

Located in the 6th of October City, the property is 45 minutes from downtown Cairo. The new hotel will be Cairo’s second Ritz-Carlton property, after the conversion of the Nile Hotel, previously the Nile Hilton, to a Ritz-Carlton hotel in 2011.

Simon Cooper, president and chief operating officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company said: “Cairo provides a voyage of discovery steeped in heritage and the opening of The Ritz-Carlton Cairo, Palm Hills is a key strategic move to expand our presence across the Middle East and North Africa.”

Each guestroom in the 160-room resort will feature contemporary design with panoramic views of the pyramids of Giza, which are 20 minutes away. The restaurants – an all-day dining room, a lobby lounge, a poolside grill and two specialty restaurants – will feature regional cuisine.

The hotel will have a dedicated concierge service, a spa, a health club and two outdoor swimming pools, as well as 1400 sqm of meeting space, to include two ballrooms and five multi-purpose function rooms.
