13 May 2009 by Sara Turner

The Emirates Group has partnered with Marriott International for the forthcoming Park Towers hotel development in Dubai. Set to be branded as a JW Marriott Marquis, the first phase is due to open in 2011.

The 1614-room twin-tower hotel and apartment property is currently being constructed on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the Business Bay district. The first tower, with 807 rooms, will open in 2011, while the second will launch in 2013.

According to a Marriott spokesperson, the Marquis name is assigned to select properties in the JW Marriott portfolio, which are deemed to be particuarly special. There are currently JW Marriott Marquis hotels in Atlanta and New York, while a third US property is due to open in Miami in 2010, dubbed “the new insignia of urban integration”. Marriott did not rule out using the name for other hotels in the future.

Edwin D. Fuller, President & Managing Director, International Lodging, Marriott International, said of the new Emirates property: “The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai will be a unique and visually stunning hotel without pretence that welcomes the world to this incredible city.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Emirates. Their recognised commitment to excellence, unparalleled service and exquisite taste all make Emirates the perfect partner to introduce this special hotel. We are confident it will quickly become the finest address in Dubai. Marriott has always had a strong commitment towards Dubai, and we believe this relationship with Emirates cements our position as a regional hospitality leader.”

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates airline and Group said: “Emirates has always supported Dubai’s continued growth. The development of this new property reflects our commitment to, and confidence in, the city’s ongoing success.

“We believe this property will emerge as one of Dubai’s top hotels and will contribute to attracting both leisure and business travellers to the city.”
