Pay lower, fly higher

10 Feb 2009

Travellers, who’ve always wanted to fly Business Class on Economy Class prices are having their wish granted.

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad is offering passengers who pay full fare on its Coral Economy Class get upgraded to the corporate section, while those booking Business will go right to the front of the plane.

The deal, probably one of the most generous airline offers in recent days, is valid virtually right across Etihad’s network and is being sold in a number of countries around the world.

From Singapore, a Pearl Business customer pays S$2,921 (US$1,954) to get pampered like a sheikh in Diamond First. From Beijing, a Pearl Business patron parts with CNY7,990 (US$1,171) to get into Diamond First. From Jakarta, it's 1,080 for Pearl Business, and from there, it's straight to nirvana in Diamond First. Other Asian destinations served by the carrier include Dhaka, Karachi and Kathmandu.

The Etihad deal is suitable for readers who may be travelling on business or combining work and play. There is no minimum stay restriction, and while booking must be done by February 28, individuals need not depart until March 31 and return by May 31.

The tickets, once booked, are non-refundable although changes are possible for a fee.
