Detox before flying

3 Feb 2009

Shopping, showering (in the executive lounge) and sending off emails are some ways to pass the time while waiting for a flight. But going in for a detox programme?

For travellers, who can spare two to three days, Regal Airport Hotel Hongkong offers a special package at Om Spa, designed to rid the body of accumulated toxins as well as provide some rare personal time.

The three-day package costs HK$6,900 (US$899) per person and the two-day package is HK$4,450 (US$573) per person. These consist of a stay in a Spa Suite and a tailor made diet – after consulting with the spa manager – and a regimen that includes massages, body scrub and facial and a yoga class.

Spa director Anne Thampradit pointed to long work hours, over-consumption of processed food and lack of exercise as the culprits preventing people from eliminating toxins from their systems.

She said: “All these factors increase the chances of auto-immune disease, allergies, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and common infections, and this is the reason why detoxification is important for everybody’s health.”

The new service forms part of a creative menu promoted by Thampradit and her team, which includes a value-for-money spa membership that’s made up of airline crew, repeat Hongkong visitors, residents of the area and airport employees.
