Update: Caticlan Airport back to normal operations

11 Jan 2009 by intern22

Caticlan Airport has re-opened after operations were suspended for five hours today when a Zest Air plane undershot the runway and hit the airport's concrete wall.

Updated reports said about 25 people were injured from the mishap.

The airport was closed to all incoming and outgoing flights because the plane blocked the 30-metre wide and 950-metre long tarmac. All incoming flights were diverted to Kalibo Airport, the capital town of Aklan.

Caticlan Airport resumed operations at 12:30 pm this afternoon.

The airport in Caticlan is the jump-off point to the popular resort destination of Boracay, averaging 36 flights daily.
