The seaside resort of Pattaya is the choice of Dusit International’s second dusitD2 branded property, dusitD2 Baraquda Pattaya. dusitD2 Chiangmai kicked off the venerable Thai hotel chain’s foray into the boutique and funky.
Taking inspiration from the nearby ocean waters, the interiors are predominantly in hues of blue and reflect a contemporary Thai sentiment. The concept was designed to attract the “young and restless”, said Octavio Gamarra, senior vice-president, Dusit International, “as well as the empty nesters”.
In contrast to the older Dusit brand, known for its sumptuous and unmistakable Thai image, dusitD2s are meant to surprise, whether in the area of design, cuisine or service.
The staff, he added, are just as unconventional and enjoy amusing guests while serving them. “They’re not afraid to crack a joke with you.”
The 72 rooms are categorised as Deluxe, Club Deluxe, Studio Suite or D’Suite and feature amenities such as cable TV, CD, and DVD player and an iPod connection. There’s also a club lounge, main restaurant serving Southeast Asian selections, two bars, sunset lounge, gym , spa, free-form pool and two meeting rooms.
The next dusitD2 to come online will be located in Koh Samui and open in 2009. Kuta in Bali and the Gold Coast in Australia are likely locations for future properties.
