Indian budget airline IndiGo has chosen Bangkok as its first international destination and intends to start air service between Thailand and India next year.
Flights connecting the Thai capital with key Indian cities such as Bangalore, New Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai are being considered, according to Pavin Sachaphimukh, chairman of Nancy Group Company, the airline’s passenger sales agent in Thailand.
The decision represents an effort to capture the low-cost travel segment between both countries. In 2007, a total of 536,356 Indians visited to Thailand, making it the second most popular Asian destination, a statistic bested only by Singapore.
