Doubletree to debut in Italy

25 Oct 2008 by Mark Caswell

Hilton’s Doubletree brand has opened its first hotel in continental Europe, the Doubletree by Hilton Milan.

Situated in the Viale Certosa business district in the north of the city, the property is located between the Fiera Milano Exhibition Centre and Fair Trade Complex and the Rho Fair Grounds, two of the venues for Expo 2015.

The new-build hotel features a modern glass and wood exterior, with 240 rooms, each 29 sqm in size. There is a Doubletree Fitness by Precor facility, and Glass, a bar and restaurant combination specialising in Milanese and international cuisine. For meetings there is 450-sqm of flexible function space (divisible into eight rooms), and a 24-hour business centre.

In the UK Hilton is aiming to open around 20 Doubletree hotels within the next five to ten years, which it says it will achieve via conversions of existing properties. The first to open was the Doubletree by Hilton Cambridge House in April (see online news February 1), followed by the Doubletree by Hilton Aberdeen City Centre last month (see online news October 8), and the Courthouse Doubletree by Hilton London Regent Street due to open on November 18.
