Spirit of Manila, staffed by several former senior employees of Philippine Airlines (PAL), is based at emerging hub Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in Clark, Pampanga.
According to its website, the start-up fleet will consist of two Boeing B737-300 and two B767-300ER. Other destinations on its fly wish list include Bangkok, Hongkong, Johor Bahru, Kaohsiung, Osaka, Palau, Taipei and the Indian sub-continent.
Besides the leisure traveller, Spirit of Manila hopes to serve the immense Filipino worker market in the Middle East, which is underserved due to PAL’s inadequate services to the region. The carrier is now relying on code-share flights with Etihad Airways, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways and Emirates to maintain its presence.
