Radisson Edwardian to open Canary Wharf property

8 Aug 2007 by business traveller

London's Canary Wharf will soon welcome a brand new Radisson Edwardian property, with the Radisson Edwardian Hotel New Providence Wharf due to open on September 10.

The eight-storey, 169-room five-star hotel is connected by a raised footbridge in the lobby to the 30-storey Ontario Tower, which has 700 private luxury apartments. The tower also houses the large East River Spa with treatment rooms and six heated loungers and a gym, free for guests at the hotel.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the leading architectural consultants for the project, have incorporated large amounts of glass into the design and created its exterior to tie in with surrounding buildings. Peter Lill, associate director of SOM says: "We wanted to make sure that we created an exciting building with a comfortable atmosphere so guests can get the most from being located next to the Thames".

This is certainly the case with the 100-cover restaurant Azura, which will serve modern British fare, and opens out onto a terrace overlooking the river and O2 centre with clear views down to Greenwich.

The hotel will have four room categories and room sizes are generous with 124 superior rooms starting at 27sqm, 28 deluxe rooms (35-50sqm), 16 one-bedroom suites (57sqm) and one penthouse apartment.

For meetings, the mezzanine level above the lobby has a bar and break out areas as well as meeting and banqueting facilities for up to 200 people. For travel connections, the closest DLR station is Blackwall and it is possible to walk to Canary Wharf for the Jubilee line on the Underground.

Business Traveller visited the hotel during the last weeks of its completion and it will be featured in the forthcoming Canary Wharf focus in the September issue of the magazine.
