Norwegian unveils Norwegian UK subsidiary

13 Nov 2015 by GrahamSmith

Norwegian has announced a Norwegian UK subsidiary airline that will operate routes to destinations in Asia, South America and South Africa.

The low-cost carrier has received a UK Operating Licence today granting it bilateral traffic rights.

As such, the airline now plans to expand its long-haul presence within the UK (see news, November 2).

Norwegian UK will begin operating in the first quarter of 2016 and will be located at London Gatwick, where it currently bases ten aircraft.

Bjorn Kjos, Norwegian's CEO said: "The British market continues to play a major role in Norwegian's growth. Securing a UK Operating License is great news and an important step to get a stronger foothold in the UK as we plan for further expansion, new routes and new jobs."

Norwegian set-up its first UK base at Gatwick in April 2013 (see news, October 2012). It is now the third-largest airline at LGW and also operates from Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh.
