Air Canada has commenced a B787-9 service between Toronto and Dubai.

The airline is operating the route three-times weekly, on Tuesdays/Wednesdays, Wednesdays/Thursdays and Saturdays/Sundays.

Outbound service AC056 departs Toronto at 2055 and arrives in Dubai at 1840 the next day. Return leg AC057 leaves Dubai at 2355 and lands in Toronto at 0500 the following day.

Air Canada said that certain flights will be operated by a B787-8 until February, when all flights will be flown by a 298-seater B787-9 with 30 seats in business, 21 in premium economy and 247 in economy.

The move comes three days after the carrier inaugurated its B787-9 with a service from Toronto to Delhi.

Benjamin Smith, Air Canada's passenger airlines president, said: "By extending our reach with our new nonstop service to Dubai, we are providing customers more convenient options for travelling to the Middle East using the newest, most modern aircraft in our fleet.

"Today's inaugural also underscores Air Canada's commitment to its international expansion strategy, with its focus on transforming its Toronto Pearson hub into a convenient global connecting point for travel throughout the airline's extensive and expanding international, transborder and domestic networks."

Last week, Air Canada announced it will add a second daily service, to be operated by a B787-9, on to its Vancouver-London Heathrow route next summer (see news, October 30).
