Qatar Airways is expected to launch a daily Doha-Sydney service after the Qatari and Australian governments signed an agreement to increase flights between the two countries.
The Gulf carrier currently operates two daily services to Australia, from Doha to Melbourne and Perth.
The deal signed today allows for up to 21 weekly flights each way made by airlines from both countries, reports Reuters. It is effective immediately.
Andrew Robb, Australia's trade and investment minister, said he expects Qatar Airways to start daily flights between Doha and Sydney.
Qatar Airways declined to comment.
Last week, Qatar Airways announced it will increase frequencies to Stockholm, Copenhagen and Brussels in December (see news, September 15).
