18 Aug 2015 by GrahamSmith

Emirates will resume passenger flights to Baghdad from next month.

The Gulf carrier, which suspended its route from Dubai to the Iraqi capital in January, will restart the four-times weekly A330-200 service on September 17.

It will operate as flights EK941/942 on Mondays and Thursdays, and as EK943/944 on Fridays and Sundays.

Between September 17 and October 23, EK941 will depart Dubai at 0715 and arrive in Baghdad at 0850, while EK942 will leave Baghdad at 1040 and land in Dubai at 1400. EK943 will depart Dubai at 1235 and arrive in Baghdad at 1420, with EK944 leaving Baghdad at 1555 and landing in Dubai at 1915.

From October 25, EK941 will depart Dubai at 0755 and arrive in Baghdad at 0940, while EK942 will leave Baghdad at 1135 and land in Dubai at 1450. EK943 will depart Dubai at 1230 and arrive in Baghdad at 1415, while EK944 will leave Baghdad at 1545 and land in Dubai at 1910.

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates' divisional senior vice president of commercial operations, said: "After conducting an exhaustive safety and security review, we have decided to restart services between Dubai and Baghdad.

"Commercial air transport has been one of the cornerstones of economic development for Iraq and we want to continue to support the development of economic opportunities in Baghdad by increasing access to international markets and inward investment."

Last week, Emirates announced it will operate the world's longest non-stop flight when it launches a service to Panama City in February (see news, August 13).
