Rosewood Hotels and Resorts has announced its first property in South America.

The Rosewood Sao Paulo, which will contain 151 rooms and 114 private residence suites, is located in the centre of the Brazilian city and is scheduled to open in 2018.

The property will be part of Cidade Matarazzo, a “complex of elegant buildings dating back to the early 20th century” that will be turned into a mixed-use development of shops, entertainment venues and apartments.

The hotel will feature two restaurants, a bar, caviar lounge, two swimming pools (one rooftop), spa and fitness area.

Other facilities will include event and meeting spaces totalling 9,290 sqm, a screening room, and a listed wedding chapel.

Sonia Cheng, CEO of Rosewood Hotel Group, said: “Rosewood has been waiting for the right opportunity to enter South America and I firmly believe this is it…

“We are excited to give this landmark building a new lease of life and that it will continue to be a place of joy and celebration.”

Rosewood has been appointed by Groupe Allard to manage the hotel.

The company currently manages 18 luxury properties in 11 counties with 11 new hotels under development. Rosewood Beijing opened last year (see news, August 2014).
